“What Will the Poor Do?”: Retired BPCL CFO shares painful account of bribes after losing his only child

Bengaluru, Oct 30: A LinkedIn post by Sivakumar K, the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has gone viral after he alleged that he was forced to pay bribes to various officials following the death of his only child.

In an emotional post, Sivakumar recounted how his 34-year-old daughter recently passed away and how, in his moment of grief, he faced “open demands for bribes” at every step — from ambulance services to police and civic offices.

Bribes Allegedly Demanded at Multiple Levels

In the viral post, Sivakumar wrote that bribes were sought for:

♦The police, for registering the FIR and issuing the post-mortem report,

♦The crematorium, for providing the receipt, and

♦The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) office, for issuing the death certificate.

He specifically named the Inspector of Belandur Police Station, alleging that the officer was “arrogant” and “lacked empathy” toward a grieving father.

In his heartfelt note, Sivakumar wrote:

“Recently my only child passed away at age 34. The amount of open bribes being asked… by ambulance, police for FIR and post-mortem report, crematorium for giving receipt, BBMP office for death certificate… I paid. The inspector of Belandur police station was so arrogant, with no empathy to a father who lost his only child. Very sad state. I had money, I paid. What will the poor do?”
