Whenever the Rabi or Kharif crop is ready in Punjab and farmers try to sell it by taking it to the markets, the government’s effort is to ensure smooth procurement of the crop and payment to the farmers for their crop as soon as possible. Currently, the paddy crop is being sold in the markets of Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is visiting different markets to review this year’s crop procurement process. Recently, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inspected the grain market of Rajpura. After the inspection here, he expressed satisfaction and said that we have achieved remarkable success in immediate procurement of the farmers’ crop and making immediate payment. He stated that the government is ensuring that farmers are paid for their crops within 24 hours. The government is also ensuring that there is no shortage of warehouses in the markets to store the crops. Special trains are also being run to lift paddy in Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, while reviewing the paddy procurement, speaks with farmers, market officials, and commission agents to gather information. He expressed satisfaction that every procurement agency is demonstrating transparency in purchasing paddy from farmers. There is an atmosphere of joy among farmers and commission agents. Due to improved procedures, farmers’ payment issues are being resolved quickly. According to data, as of Thursday, 62.07 lakh metric tons of paddy had reached Punjab’s mandis. Of this, 60.50 lakh metric tons had been purchased. The government has already paid βΉ12,999 crore to farmers. This figure in itself is commendable and satisfactory. It is also fortunate that the monsoon did not disrupt the paddy procurement process this time. While there has been some rain, sometimes heavy, it hasn’t been enough to negatively impact the quality of the paddy. Therefore, the paddy procurement process is proceeding smoothly, and farmers are receiving their payments on time. According to government data, higher payments have been made this year. This is also because the Punjab government’s supply of canal water this year has increased crop yields. This is good news for farmers during the festive season.
