Ritesh Pandey Quits Jan Suraj Party After Election Defeat

Bhojpuri singer and actor Ritesh Pandey has resigned from Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party, dealing a setback to the fledgling political outfit following its performance in the Bihar Assembly elections. Pandey announced his decision on social media platform X, saying he was stepping away from active political membership.

Pandey had joined the Jan Suraj Party ahead of the 2025 Bihar polls, marking his political debut under the banner of the party founded by political strategist-turned-leader Prashant Kishor. His departure comes after the party failed to secure electoral victories in its maiden contest.

Cites Difficulty in Balancing Politics and Public Service

In his resignation post, Pandey explained that it had become too difficult to work actively within a political party while continuing to serve the public effectively. He expressed gratitude to supporters for the love and respect shown to him as a voice from a humble background but said that operating within the framework of a political organization posed challenges.

The singer, who contested from the Kharghar seat in Bihar, also appeared to signal that he may focus on public service and artistic work outside the realm of party politics. His exit raises questions about the Jan Suraj Party’s ability to retain high-profile entrants after its electoral setback.

    Electoral Setback and Party Challenges

The Jan Suraj Party, launched by Prashant Kishor as a new political force in Bihar, contested all seats in the 2025 Assembly elections but failed to win any — a result that has led to introspection within the party ranks. Analysts say the departure of a well-known cultural figure like Pandey could further complicate the party’s efforts to galvanism support ahead of future political battles.

Pandey’s resignation highlights broader challenges for niche political outfits in translating star appeal into grassroots political success. As the party reassesses its strategy following the elections, retaining talent and motivating prospective leaders will be key concerns
