Ludhiana: A series of robberies at liquor vends across the city has left contractors and vend owners frustrated and they concerned for their and their employees safety.

According to the contractors, over half a dozen incidents have occurred within past 10 days, where miscreants have targeted liquor vends and robbed employees of significant amounts of cash.

The latest incident, which took place on Friday night, saw miscreants targeting three liquor vends, including those located on Noorwala Road and Rahon Road. The robbers managed to escape with a total of Rs 1.82 lakh in cash after threatening the employees.

Masked robbers entering the liquor shop forcefully

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing three masked individuals, armed with sharp-edged weapons and a baseball bat, forcefully entering one of the vends. After intimidating the employee, they swiftly made off with the cash.

This robbery is not an isolated event. Just a few days prior, on August 20, a similar incident occurred at a liquor vend in Kanganwal, where miscreants robbed an employee of Rs 42,500 in cash. The frequency of these crimes has left vend employees feeling vulnerable and dissatisfied with the response from the police.

Shiv, a salesman at one of the affected vends, expressed his frustration, stating, “We have lodged complaints with the police, but it seems they are unable to control the crime as these incidents keep happening.”

It has been learnt that these miscreants target the liquor vends between 8.30pm – 9.30pm and the contractors demand the Ludhiana police officials to increase patrolling in the areas and make sincere efforts to curb the crime. They want the police to ensure the safety of their businesses and employees.
