Roger Federer Receives International Tennis ‘Hall of Fame Ring’ at US Open Ceremony

New York: Tennis legend Roger Federer received his official International Tennis Hall of Fame ring at Arthur Ashe Stadium during the US Open, just two days after his emotional induction into the Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion was presented with the custom ring in front of fans during Monday night’s session at the US Open. International Tennis Hall of Fame Co-President Kim Clijsters presented the honour to Federer, who was also joined on court by Hall of Fame CEO Dan Faber, fellow Co-President Patrick McEnroe, US Open Tournament Director Eric Butorac, USTA CEO Craig Tiley and USTA Board Chairman Brian Vahaly.

The ring ceremony carried special significance as it took place at the same stadium where Federer created some of the defining moments of his career.

Federer won five consecutive US Open titles from 2004 to 2008, establishing himself as one of the tournament’s greatest champions. Across his 18 appearances at the US Open, he recorded an 85-13 win-loss record and ranks third all-time in men’s singles victories at the tournament.

After receiving the ring, Federer addressed the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd and reflected on the remarkable week, saying the celebrations had given him an opportunity to look back at the people who helped him throughout his career and at what tennis had given him.

He also encouraged young fans to dream and pursue their goals.

Why Federer received the Hall of Fame ring at US Open

The International Tennis Hall of Fame ring is separate from the main induction ceremony. Hall of Fame inductees receive a custom-made ring at another special event or location that holds particular significance for them.

The rings are designed to commemorate an inductee’s place among tennis’ greatest champions and contributors. They are custom-made by Baron, the official ring provider of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

For Federer, Arthur Ashe Stadium was a fitting venue given his extraordinary record at the US Open and his connection with New York.

Federer inducted into Hall of Fame

Federer officially joined the International Tennis Hall of Fame Class of 2026 during an emotional ceremony in Newport over the weekend.

The Swiss great was inducted alongside former player and broadcaster Mary Carillo. During his induction speech, Federer became emotional several times while reflecting on his career, family, fans and the people who helped shape his journey.

Federer said being inducted was one of the greatest honours of his life and reflected on his journey from a young ball boy in Basel to one of the most successful players in tennis history.

    Federer’s legendary career

Federer retired from professional tennis with 20 Grand Slam singles titles, 103 ATP Tour-level titles and 1,251 tour-level match wins.

He spent 310 weeks as world No. 1, including a record 237 consecutive weeks at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings. His Grand Slam tally includes eight Wimbledon titles, six Australian Open titles, five US Open titles and one French Open crown.

His Hall of Fame induction and the US Open ring ceremony have marked an emotional return to the tournament where he enjoyed some of the biggest successes of his career.

Federer had already returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium earlier this week for a special exhibition celebrating his legacy in New York, playing alongside Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and John McEnroe. The evening also featured a surprise drone show honouring his career.
