Police Probe Bishnoi Gang’s New Modus in Rohit Shetty Firing

Mumbai Police are intensifying the probe into the late-night firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence, with investigators now focusing on a new modus operandi allegedly used by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the attack. Four suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the case, and police are tracking further leads to uncover the full conspiracy behind the shooting.

Gang’s “Planned Operation” and Weapons Used

According to officials, around five bullets were fired at the Shetty Towers a nine-storey building around 12:45 am on Sunday. One of the bullets hit a gym’s glass pane inside the complex, though there were no casualties. Police believe the attack was premeditated and planned at least four months earlier, with the scooter used in the attack purchased and prepared ahead of time.

Bishnoi Gang Link and Modus Operandi

Investigators suspect the involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar, who is also an accused in the Baba Siddique murder case, in orchestrating the firing. Evidence suggests the gang is operating through a cell-based structure, using intermediaries who had no direct knowledge of the shooter’s identity but helped with logistics such as procuring and moving the scooter used in the incident.

Officials say that one of the accused was given Rs 40,000 by Lonkar for the two-wheeler used in the shooting showing a cash-for-logistics pattern that may represent a new operational strategy for carrying out such criminal acts through lower-profile participants.

CCTV Footage and Shooter’s Escape Route

Police have reviewed CCTV footage that shows a masked suspect fleeing the scene after abandoning the scooter near St Joseph Church Road and later attempting to escape via other vehicles near the Vile Parle railway station. Over a dozen police teams from the Mumbai Crime Branch are currently involved in tracing the gunman and his accomplices.

Security Strengthened After Attack

In the aftermath of the firing, Mumbai Police have significantly tightened security around Shetty’s Juhu residence. The filmmaker reportedly told investigators he had received no prior threats from any gang or individual before the attack, raising concerns about how quickly the situation escalated.

Ongoing Investigation and Broader Concerns

While four suspects have been remanded in police custody, law enforcement agencies are tracking additional persons of interest, including Lonkar, whose social media account from which the gang earlier claimed responsibility has been deleted. The case has spotlighted concerns about organised crime networks exploiting informal recruitment and logistics channels to carry out targeted violence.
