‘Roshan Punjab’ to end power outages in state; uninterrupted supply to every home, farm

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government has launched the ‘Roshan Punjab Scheme’, bringing about a major transformation in the power sector. The scheme aims to provide affordable and reliable power supply to Punjab 24 hours a day by next year. Chief Minister Mann said, “This scheme is not just about electricity, but a symbol of Punjab’s light and progress.”

The state government has invested Rs 5,000 crore in this scheme—the largest power sector investment to date. Power Minister Sanjeev Arora and Punjab Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Chairman Ajay Kumar Sinha are overseeing the project.

The government has acquired and taken control of the GVK thermal plant in Goindwal Sahib, bringing power generation under the state’s control. Long-term coal supply from the Pachhwara mine has been secured to ensure uninterrupted production.

Under “Roshan Punjab,” new substations, transmission lines, and voltage improvement projects are underway across the state. PSPCL has launched a campaign in 13 municipal corporations to repair loose wires, open meter boxes, and old lines.

A state-of-the-art 180-seat call center has been established in Mohali, making the 1912 helpline more effective.
