Bright Future Ahead: ‘Roshan Punjab Yojana’ Set to End Power Cuts Across the State

Punjab Desk: The Bhagwant Singh Mann–led government has launched the ambitious ‘Roshan Punjab Yojana’, marking a major transformation in the state’s power sector. The goal of this initiative is to provide affordable and reliable 24×7 electricity across Punjab by next year.

Chief Minister Mann said, “This plan is not just about electricity it is a symbol of Punjab’s progress and prosperity.” The state government has invested ₹5,000 crore, the largest-ever investment in Punjab’s power sector. Power Minister Sanjeev Arora and PSPCL Chairman Ajay Kumar Sinha are supervising the implementation of the project.

The government has taken full control of the GVK Thermal Plant in Goindwal Sahib, bringing electricity generation directly under the state’s management. Long-term coal supply from the Pachhwara mines has also been secured to ensure uninterrupted production. Under the ‘Roshan Punjab’ initiative, new substations, transmission lines, and voltage improvement projects are being developed across the state.

PSPCL has launched a major drive in all 13 municipal corporations to fix loose wires, exposed meter boxes, and outdated power lines. A high-tech call center with 180 seating capacity has been set up in Mohali to further strengthen the 1912 power helpline. The initiative aims not only to eliminate power cuts but also to empower industries, farmers, and households. ‘Roshan Punjab’ stands as a decisive step toward illuminating every corner of the state with reliable electricity.
