Russia, Ukraine Accuse Each Other of Violating 3-Day Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Conflict

Russia / Ukraine: Russia and Ukraine on Sunday accused each other of violating a declared three-day ceasefire agreed during Victory Day commemorations, as both sides reported continued military activity despite the temporary truce.

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that Ukrainian forces committed 16,071 ceasefire violations in the past 24 hours, including attacks involving multiple launch rocket systems, artillery, and mortar positions. It further stated that Russian forces responded with retaliatory strikes targeting command posts, artillery positions, and drone launch sites. The ministry had earlier reported 8,970 violations on Saturday.

Ukraine, however, rejected Russia’s claims and alleged continued attacks on its territory. Ukrainian authorities said at least one person was killed and 15 others were injured in Russian strikes despite the ceasefire. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported around 60 Russian attacks on Ukrainian positions on Sunday.

The ceasefire was reportedly agreed upon on Friday and was intended to last from Saturday to Monday during Victory Day commemorations marking the Soviet Union’s World War II victory. Russia had earlier announced a separate ceasefire from May 8 to May 10 for the 81st anniversary of Victory Day.

Despite the announcements, both sides have accused each other of repeated violations, with ongoing hostilities reported across multiple frontline regions.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which escalated in 2022, has seen several short-lived ceasefires that quickly broke down amid mutual accusations and continued fighting.
