Mani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House in New Delhi on Friday, sparking fresh political speculation ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Will the Akali Dal and BJP contest the 2027 elections together?

The high-level meeting comes at a time when political activity in Punjab has started to pick up. For months, both the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal had said that they would contest the 2027 assembly elections independently. BJP leaders had repeatedly asserted that the party was preparing to contest the elections on its own in Punjab.

However, Sukhbir Badal’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi has once again fuelled speculation that the two former allies may explore the possibility of reviving their alliance ahead of the next assembly elections.
