SAD leaders denied meeting Majithia in Nabha jail; Langah slams Punjab Govt

Nabha, August 19: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sucha Singh Langah was not allowed to meet Bikram Singh Majithia, lodged in the new Nabha jail, along with a delegation of senior party leaders from Dera Baba Nanak on Tuesday. Majithia, the leader of the Akali Dal, has been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau since June 25 in a disproportionate assets case and kept in judicial custody. He has been accused of laundering Rs 540 crore through fraudulent means of “drug money”.

When the Akali leaders reached the jail, they were stopped outside. Jail Superintendent Inderjit Singh Kahlon said that as per the jail rules, only family members or legal representatives are allowed to meet, hence the political delegation was not allowed to enter.

Reacting to this action, Sucha Singh Langah accused the Punjab government of authoritarianism and said that the Aam Aadmi Party is ignoring democratic values. He said that the government wants that the Akali leader should not have any contact with Majithia in any form. He also expressed doubts about the transparency of the judicial process.

This incident has taken place after a Mohali court on Monday rejected Majithia’s bail application and during the proceedings held on August 14, his judicial custody was extended till August 28. This entire situation shows the ongoing political and legal turmoil regarding the Akali Dal and Bikram Singh Majithia.
