Sale of beedis, cigarettes without license to attract fine up to Rs 3 lakh in Chamba

In Chamba district, strict action will now be taken against those selling beedis and cigarettes without a license. For the first time, a fine of 25,000 rupees will be imposed, for the second time, and for the third time, a fine of up to 300,000 rupees will be imposed.

According to the new rules, municipal councils in urban areas, while panchayats in rural areas, will issue licenses for the sale of beedis and cigarettes. This move aims to curb the increasing trend of tobacco use among minors and make society tobacco-free.

This decision was taken under the “Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign,” which is being implemented under the “Saksham Abhiyan” (Saksham Campaign) under the aegis of the Chamba Police. The primary objective of this campaign is to prevent tobacco use and raise awareness about its harmful effects.

Under the campaign, awareness programs, rallies, and workshops will be organized in schools, colleges, and community spaces to discourage youth from tobacco use and foster a healthy society.
