Salman Khan Says ‘Ramayana’ Debate Should Focus on Story, Not VFX, Budget or Casting

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has said discussions around the upcoming Indian epic Ramayana should focus on the story and its central characters rather than its visual effects, production budget or casting.

Salman, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, shared his views on the film while attending a special event in Mumbai on Friday.

The actor was joined by his co-stars at the event held in the Andheri West area.

Speaking to the media, Salman said, “I think the discussion around ‘Ramayana’ should be focused on ‘Ramayana’, and not the VFX, cost of production and other peripherals. This entire narrative of INR 4000 crores around the film, and its VFX is redundant. The discussion should be around ‘Ramayana’, Ram, Sita and Ravan.”

Ramayana has attracted considerable attention over its visual effects and casting. More recently, its music has also become a talking point, with Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer A. R. Rahman collaborating with legendary composer Hans Zimmer on the project.

Meanwhile, Salman also spoke about his upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, which was earlier titled Galwan.

The war drama is based on the India-China military clash in the Galwan Valley of eastern Ladakh on June 15, 2020, during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India.

The clash took place amid a wider border standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as Indian and Chinese troops confronted each other while attempting to patrol disputed areas.

The violent face-off resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers, while China also suffered casualties. It was the deadliest India-China military confrontation in more than four decades and led to heightened tensions, increased troop deployments and diplomatic efforts by both countries to prevent further escalation.

India and China have since worked to improve bilateral relations and opened multiple diplomatic channels.

Salman also denied rumours that the government had pressured him to change the film’s script.
