One Child Killed, Two Injured as School Canopy Collapses During Independence Day Event in Sambhal

Sambhal: An Independence Day celebration turned tragic in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district on Saturday after a concrete canopy at the main entrance of a school collapsed, killing one child and injuring two others.

The incident took place at Hasnain Public School in Madala village while the school was hosting an Independence Day programme. The three children were caught beneath the collapsed structure.

The child who died had reportedly come to attend the programme and was critically trapped under the debris. The child died at the spot, while two school students sustained injuries in the collapse.

Officials Reach School, Rescue Operation Launched

The incident triggered panic at the school premises, following which rescue and relief efforts were launched.

Senior officials, including the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Circle Officer and Tehsildar, reached the spot along with Education Department officials.

The injured children were taken for medical treatment, while authorities began assessing the circumstances that led to the collapse.

Probe Underway Into Canopy Collapse

Authorities have launched an investigation into the structural failure and are examining whether any safety lapses or other factors contributed to the incident.

The collapse reportedly occurred after several children climbed onto the canopy to get a better view of the Independence Day celebrations, according to police reports cited by local media.

Further action is expected after the administration completes its assessment and determines the circumstances behind the collapse.
