Sanjeev Arora gets Power Portfolio in Punjab Cabinet after Reshuffle

Chandigarh: In a significant cabinet reshuffle, Punjab Governor, on the advice of Chief Minister, has reallocated key portfolios, handing over the crucial Power department to Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora. The move strips Harbhajan Singh ETO of the Power portfolio, leaving him only with the Public Works (B&R) department.

According to an official notification issued by the Department of General Administration (Cabinet Affairs Branch) on Monday, Arora, who already holds the portfolios of Industries & Commerce, Investment Promotion, and NRI Affairs, will now also head the Power ministry.

The reshuffle is seen as a bid to streamline governance and address challenges in the state’s power sector, which has been under public and political scrutiny over issues of supply, subsidies, and financial stress on the state’s electricity board.

While the notification did not cite reasons for the change, the redistribution strengthens Arora’s role in the cabinet with an additional high-stakes portfolio. Harbhajan Singh ETO, who was handling both Public Works and Power, will now continue solely with Public Works (B&R).

“The rest of the cabinet portfolios remain unchanged, the government clarified,” the letter reads.
