    SAS Nagar Police Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining

    SAS Nagar: In a decisive move against illegal mining activities, the SAS Nagar Police conducted a large-scale, coordinated enforcement operation across multiple locations within the district, reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations.

    The special crackdown was carried out during the intervening night of December 26–27, 2025. Coordinated raids were conducted in the jurisdictions of Police Station Sohana, Majri and Dera Bassi in District SAS Nagar.

    As a result of the crackdown, the police registered 20 FIRs against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. A total of 15 accused persons were arrested on the spot during the operation.

    Seizure of Vehicles and Machinery

    During the enforcement drive, substantial equipment and vehicles used for illegal mining were seized. These included one JCB machine, 14 loaded tippers, and two loaded tractor-trolleys. The seized vehicles were found transporting illegally mined material.

    Assessment by Mining Department

    The illegally mined material seized from various dumping sites has been assessed by the Mining Department for further legal and administrative action. In addition, notices have been issued to crusher owners and other individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal mining network.

    Large-Scale Force Deployment

    The special operation was led by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), SAS Nagar, and was assisted by three Superintendents of Police (SPs), four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), seven Station House Officers (SHOs), and approximately 250 NGO/EPO personnel, ensuring effective execution of the crackdown.

The district police have reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue in the future to deter violations and uphold the rule of law.
