Saurabh Bhardwaj alleges ₹22,000 crore rice scam in Delhi

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has accused the Delhi government of orchestrating an alleged ₹22,000 crore subsidized rice scam over three years.

Posting on X, Bhardwaj claimed that the Delhi government and an Assam-based company had requested heavily subsidized rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to distribute among the poor.

He claimed that approximately 31,000 metric tons of rice were requested each week.

‘Rice did not reach the poor’

Bhardwaj alleges that instead of distributing subsidized rice to the poor, it was sold to a private company in Haryana at a profit.

He claimed that this alleged arrangement could have generated a weekly profit of approximately ₹143 crore, and that the amount could have reached approximately ₹22,000 crore over three years.

Vigilance Department Detected Irregularities Claim

The AAP leader also alleged that the Assam-based company could have earned a weekly commission of approximately ₹70 crore through this arrangement.

Bhardwaj claimed that the Central Government’s Vigilance Department detected the alleged irregularities. However, these allegations are made by Saurabh Bhardwaj and are yet to be independently confirmed by the relevant authorities.
