BJP Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu raises the issue of the water crisis in Punjab. He said that Punjab was formed around five rivers, but today the state is facing a serious water crisis. There is a growing problem of drinking water in Punjab. A committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has warned that in the coming years, there could be a shortage of water even for agriculture.
Supporting the G Ram G Scheme, he said that under the G Ram G scheme, a fund of ₹32,000 crore has been allocated to conserve groundwater and improve the water level beneath the earth. The fund will be used to help restore the groundwater table. This is considered an important scheme for Punjab, and a campaign like “Save Water, Save Punjab” will have to be carried out.
Responding to the opposition by the Indian National Congress against the G Ram G scheme, he said that this issue should not be politicised, as solving Punjab’s water crisis is the state’s biggest need.
He also said that war has become a major global issue. Many Indians live in countries where conflicts are taking place. MEA, S Jaishankar, had recently explained how the government is working to address these situations. However, when information about the war was being presented in Parliament, the opposition raised protests, which he termed inappropriate.
The Lok Sabha has not been functioning smoothly, raising questions about how discussions can take place. Continuous protests are being held in Parliament, causing losses to the public. He was pointed out that about ₹9 crore is spent every day on running Parliament, and if the House functions properly, it will benefit the people of the country.
