1. Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Seeks 5-Day Remand for Giribala, Custody Extension for Samarth Singh

CBI has asked for the grant of remand of 5 days for the mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, Giribala Singh, and for the extension of detention of Samarth Singh who is an accused in the same case, for 5 days. Giribala Singh has been brought to the Bhopal District Court on Friday, and her lawyer also confirmed that they have no objection to the CBI’s request.

She had earlier been arrested by the CBI as the anticipatory bail issued to her by the Madhya Pradesh High Court was withdrawn. Twisha Sharma, who resided in Noida and got married to Samarth Singh in December 2025, died on May 12. Her parents had complained about dowry harassment from the accused party.

Giribala Singh has been charged with dowry death, cruelty, and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Also, she would be tried under Dowry Prohibition Act. All parties would not make any statements in the media as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

At least thirteen people have lost their lives and others are in critical condition as they consumed poisonous liquor in some parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad districts of Maharashtra. Police have filed cases against the offenders on various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and Crime Branch is taking up the investigation in the matter.

Five people have been arrested by the police and three others are in possession of the State Excise department. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis has taken action to look into the matter and conduct a thorough investigation.

Family members of the deceased reported that those affected by this poisonous liquor complained about severe vomiting and abdominal pain almost immediately after consuming the alcohol. Reports suggest that methanol had been added to the alcohol, causing deaths.

It is said that a man named Yogesh Wankhede has supplied poisonous liquor in some parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

3. NEET-UG 2026 cancelled to protect students’ interests: NTA in SC

According to the NTA, cancelling NEET-UG 2026 and conducting a fresh examination would be done to safeguard the interest of the students. It is also noted that the case is transferred to the CBI following instances of malpractice in the exam.

The NTA further added that the new exam scheduled on June 21 would have more stringent security, with major changes in the process of examination expected from the coming year.

4. Vinesh Phogat given nod to participate in Asian Games trials by Supreme Court

On Friday, the Supreme Court declined to stay the order passed by the Delhi High Court in favor of wrestler Vinesh Phogat permitting her to take part in the Asian Games 2026 trials, while accepting to entertain the petition filed by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

While the Supreme Court permitted Phogat to appear for trials on May 30 and 31, the court pointed out that some larger questions posed by the WFI need to be addressed at a later stage. In addition, the court raised objections on her anti-doping requirements and the observations passed by the Delhi High Court pertaining to the eligibility criterion set forth by the WFI.

In an earlier order, the Delhi High Court held that it should not come to such a situation where women wrestlers should face denial of professional chances based on motherhood.

4. NSA Doval visits Russia’s National Space Centre in Moscow, interacts with ISS crew

Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Adviser, went on a tour of Russia’s National Space Centre in Moscow together with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov. The two toured various space technology units and conducted live interaction with Russian cosmonauts on the International Space Station.

While in Moscow, the two sides talked about space cooperation between India and Russia and took a look at some of the exhibitions on the Russian space programme, among them rocket engines and the proposed Russian Orbital Station.

Doval was visiting Moscow to attend an international security conference in Russia. During the conference, Doval said there were no double standards when dealing with terrorism. In his meeting with Russia’s Security Council Secretary, Sergey Shoigu, he discussed matters of defence, security, energy and economy.
