2 robbers who looted ₹5.2 million in 13 minutes arrested; held from UP, brought to Surat after SBI bank heist

In Uttar Pradesh, the Gujarat Crime Branch (DCB) has caught 2 criminals from Ayodhya and Gonda. They have been identified as Shubham Kumar from Ayodhya and Vikas Singh from Gonda.

Together with 5 of their other accomplices, they looted the SBI bank in Surat in broad daylight on April 27. All of them had their faces uncovered. They had pistols in hand. They looted 5.2 million rupees in 13 minutes. The Gujarat police produced the accused in Gonda court, from where they got a 3-day transit remand. The police took them along to Surat.

Seven-armed robbers entered the State Bank of India (SBI) branch located in the Varachha area of Surat. They attacked the bank and took the employees hostage at gunpoint. The robbers stayed in the bank for about 13 minutes and escaped after looting 5.2 million rupees.

After this, the police started the investigation with the help of technology and CCTV footage. From the conversation between the robbers during the robbery, it was found that the accused might be from UP. After this, the police examined the mobile tower data of the areas where the robbers stayed and the routes through which they escaped.

Rented a room using a fake Aadhaar card

Police investigation revealed that the robbers had arrived in Surat about a month before the robbery. They rented a room near Bharwadwas of Ugat village close to the Botanical Garden in the Randher area. A fake Aadhaar card was used for this.

The advance rent was paid to the landlord by showing the Aadhaar card. But 10 days before the robbery, that is, on April 17, the accused had already vacated the room. Later, during the investigation, it was found that the Aadhaar card provided was completely fake.

During the investigation, three suspicious mobile numbers were also found. Their locations match the activities of the robbers.

Bike purchased with fake ID, clues found from CCTV and ANPR

Police investigation revealed that the robbers had purchased a stolen bike from Telangana using a fake ID. This ID was made in the name of ‘Dheeraj Kumar’ and was used in plotting the crime.

On April 16, the accused were captured on an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera on Airport Road. Later, they were also seen in CCTV footage during the robbery. Based on these clues, the police reached the accused and continued the investigation. More than 120 police personnel are continuously working to catch all the robbers.
