Jalandhar: The Scheduled Caste Empowerment and Empowerment Forum (SCEEF) organised the “SCEEF Conclave” at NIT Jalandhar on Monday, focusing on the economic empowerment of the Scheduled Caste community, promotion of entrepreneurship and greater awareness about constitutional rights.
The conclave saw the participation of prominent personalities, thinkers and representatives of social organisations. Punjab State SC Commission Chairman Sardar Jasbir Singh Garhi and National Commission for Scheduled Castes member Dr Partha Biswas were among the key speakers at the event.

Garhi Urges People to Read Ambedkar’s Original Writings
Addressing the gathering, Jasbir Singh Garhi stressed the importance of reading literature written by Dr B.R. Ambedkar himself. He said Ambedkar’s original writings should be treated as the authentic source for understanding his ideas and urged people not to rely solely on interpretations by others.
Garhi said Dr Ambedkar was a leader of the entire society and not of any one particular community. Referring to Ambedkar’s writings, including Who Were the Shudras?, Who Were the Untouchables? and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar: Writings and Speeches, he cited various examples and observations related to social history and equality.
Call for Equal Opportunities and Social Harmony
Dr Partha Biswas said that providing equal opportunities to young people and entrepreneurs from the Scheduled Caste community was essential to realise Dr Ambedkar’s vision for India. He emphasised the need for greater economic empowerment and support for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Social worker Dr Krishna Gopal, while speaking at the conclave, called for promoting social equality and harmony. He said India’s core philosophy promotes love, brotherhood and humanity and stressed that caste-based discrimination has no place in the country’s fundamental ideals.
Social worker Pradeep Joshi also urged people to spread the message of equality and harmony associated with Guru Ravidas. Referring to the upcoming 650th Prakash Parv of Guru Ravidas, he called for taking the message of social harmony to every school, college, village and locality.
Hans Raj Hans Highlights Ambedkar’s Role
Former Lok Sabha MP and singer Hans Raj Hans, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award, said the ideas of equality and harmony can also be found in religious scriptures and the teachings of saints and gurus. However, he said Dr B.R. Ambedkar played a crucial role in ensuring that these principles were implemented through constitutional and legal safeguards.
Hans Raj Hans also sang a patriotic song during the programme.
The SCEEF Conclave concluded with the National Anthem, with speakers collectively highlighting the need for economic progress, equal opportunities, constitutional awareness and social harmony.
