Schools in Punjab to Open at 10 AM Till Jan 21 amid Cold Wave

Chandigarh: School timings in Punjab have been changed. The Mann government has decided to open schools at 10 AM and close them at 3 PM due to the cold wave and fog. This will be implemented across the entire state from tomorrow, January 16th to January 21st.

According to the order issued by the Secretary of the Punjab School Education Department, the timings of all government, private aided, recognized, and private schools have been changed as per the government’s decision due to fog and inclement weather.

All primary schools will now open at 10 AM instead of 9 AM and will close at 3 PM, while all middle, high, and senior secondary schools will start at 10 AM instead of 9 AM and will close at 3:20 PM.

It is worth noting that dense fog covered Punjab and Chandigarh this morning as well. Visibility was also low due to fog in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar. According to the Meteorological Department, people will have to face the cold wave for another two days. Meanwhile, snowfall is predicted in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and light drizzle in the mid-altitude areas for the next five days.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is an orange alert for cold wave and dense fog in Punjab today (Thursday). There has been a slight increase in the maximum and minimum temperatures in the last 24 hours. However, the maximum temperature is still 6.3 degrees and the minimum temperature is 3.2 degrees below normal.

On Wednesday, the lowest temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bathinda and Faridkot. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of snowfall in the hills and light rain in Punjab from January 16th. There is also a possibility of rain and hailstorms next week.
