Jharkhand: Second round of talks with students concludes without consensus; email, number released for feedback

Saturday marks the 15th day of student protests against alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand PSC-SSC examinations. A second round of talks lasting about an hour took place today between the students and a government delegation, but no consensus was reached. A government delegation had previously spoken to the students on Friday night.

An email ID ([email protected]) and a feedback number have been released to invite suggestions from students. Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu stated that they would meet with various student groups and stakeholders, and a decision would be taken after considering all suggestions.

Six students are on a hunger strike demanding the cancellation of the Jharkhand PSC exam. The students have announced plans to lay siege to the Legislative Assembly on August 10. Earlier on Saturday, ABVP activists set out to surround the Chief Minister’s residence but were stopped by the police.

Call for Assembly Siege on August 10; Students Urged to Attend

Following yesterday’s talks, the students made it clear that mere assurances would not suffice. They demanded that the government make a decision on and fulfill all demands related to JPSC and JSSC by August 9. If satisfactory action is not taken on these demands by August 9, the planned siege of the Legislative Assembly will proceed on August 10.

The JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum is urging students and parents to reach Ranchi. Social media posts warn that the government might prevent entry into Ranchi on the 10th, advising people to arrive on August 8 or 9 instead. Authorities have already stopped 10 buses in Hazaribagh.

Talks Held with One Group Yesterday

After yesterday’s meeting with the state government delegation, student leader Ravindra Paswan said, “This was our first meeting, and it was very positive. We are confident that the government, the Chief Minister, and all ministers will accept our demands. Our protest will continue until our demands are met.”

Meanwhile, Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu stated, “We held a meeting with the students in a cordial atmosphere and understood their demands.” “The government is committed to seriously considering the students’ demands.”

Ministers Chamra Linda, Sudivya Sonu, Deepika Pandey Singh, and Sanjay Yadav were present at the meeting on behalf of the government. Meanwhile, the student delegation included Ravindra Paswan, Piyush Kumar, Rajesh Prasad, Neetu Kujur, Ankit Raj, Kartik Soren, Shalu Kumari, Ravindra Kumar Ravi, Anand Kumar, and Ankit Kumar.
