Security beefed up outside Sanjauli Mosque after verdict, patrolling also begins

Following the court verdict in the Sanjauli Mosque case in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, police have increased security in the area. Sanjauli police teams are patrolling the area around the mosque, and personnel have been deployed on the roads leading to the mosque. Police are monitoring the movement of people heading towards the mosque. On September 11, 2024, hundreds of Hindu organization activists and individuals held a massive protest demanding the demolition of the Sanjauli mosque.

During this protest, protesters broke through barricades at the Dhali Tunnel. The protesters then advanced towards the Sanjauli Mosque, but police barricaded the area and managed to stop them.

Police had to resort to a lathi charge to stop the protesters. Following the protests, police filed several FIRs in the case, naming several people as accused based on video footage and investigations. For security reasons, all roads leading to the Sanjauli Mosque were barricaded, and police personnel were deployed. Following the court’s decision, the police are monitoring every activity to prevent miscreants from disrupting the peace of the area.

SSP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi stated that police are patrolling the Sanjauli Mosque area and that police personnel have also been deployed. Waqf Board advocate BS Thakur stated that the Waqf Board had granted the Sanjauli Mosque Committee a conditional NOC, provided it obtains map approval from the Municipal Corporation. Therefore, the demolition order cannot be issued against the Waqf Board.

A female police officer was injured
The mosque dispute began with a fight. This heated debate escalated politically. Protesters even arrived from outside states during the protests. The issue became so heated that it dominated national media headlines for several days. The September 11 protests were particularly violent. Protesters broke through barricades and a female police officer was injured. Uncertainty remains over whether Friday prayers will be held at the mosque.
