Security of CEC Gyanesh Kumar increased amid SIR controversy, CISF deploys additional personnel

New Delhi:  Amidst ongoing protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, the security arrangements for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar have been further strengthened. According to officials, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has increased the deployment of additional reserve personnel under his existing Z+ security cover.

Additional CISF personnel have been deployed at Gyanesh Kumar’s residence in New Moti Bagh Colony, the Election Commission’s office, and his personal security cover.

    Deployment increased from October 7

Officials said that an order to increase the deployment of additional reserve forces was issued on October 7. Following this, the security arrangements were further strengthened.

Gyanesh Kumar already enjoys the country’s second-highest Z+ security cover. Above this comes only Special Protection Group (SPG) security, which is provided to the Prime Minister and his immediate family.

    No Change in Z+ Category

Officials clarified that the deployment of additional troops does not mean an increase in Gyanesh Kumar’s security category. His Z+ security remains the same.

According to the official, additional troops held in reserve are deployed as needed based on the threat situation and current security assessment. Given the current situation, the deployment of additional forces is described as a precautionary measure.

India Bloc Nationwide Protests Against SIR

India Bloc is staging large-scale protests across the country regarding SIR in voter lists. The opposition alliance is demanding the immediate resignation and removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar from his post.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with leaders from other India Bloc parties, including the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress, are participating in these protests.

Opposition parties have accused the Election Commission of allegedly manipulating the electoral process, calling it a “puppet” of the government. These allegations have been leveled by opposition parties and leaders.
