Seized Drone Sparks Security Alert Near India-Pakistan Border in Jaisalmer Ahead of Independence Day

Jaipur: Ahead of upcoming Independence Day celebrations, security agencies have intercepted a drone near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. The drone was recovered from an uninhabited area in Sector South, just 20 km from the border, on Thursday evening.

Sources indicated that the drone bears markings stating “Made in China,” although no official confirmation has been issued yet by the Border Security Force (BSF) or local police. Authorities are now investigating the drone’s origin, whether it recently fell or was dispatched earlier. Joint efforts by the Jaisalmer Police and BSF are examining its operational range, feed footage, and control sources. A detailed technical analysis is underway to identify the type of camera and equipment on board. Given strict restrictions on civilian drone usage near border regions, security agencies suspect it may have been used for espionage.

This incident marks the third major security alert in Rajasthan’s border areas within a week. Earlier, in Sriganganagar, forces recovered a heroin packet weighing over half a kilogram, valued between Rs 2.5 to 3 crore. Additionally, a suspected spy named Mahendra Prasad, linked to Pakistan and found near the DRDO centre in Jaisalmer, has been taken into custody and shifted to Jaipur for interrogation. He had allegedly been under suspicion for a long time and was posted at the DRDO guest house.

Officials note that after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has increased drone-based activities along the Rajasthan border, prompting heightened vigilance among security agencies. The recent incidents highlight ongoing threats related to cross-border smuggling and espionage, leading to increased security around strategic defense installations and tighter surveillance of border movement.
