Sensex, Nifty Open Flat; IT and Realty Stocks Lead Gains

Mumbai: Indian equity benchmark indices opened nearly flat on Tuesday as buying in information technology (IT) and realty stocks supported the market amid weak global cues.

At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex stood at 71,951.73, up 27.05 points or 0.04 per cent. The NSE Nifty 50 began the session at 22,364.15, gaining just 0.80 points and remaining almost flat.

IT and Realty Stocks Lead Sectoral Gains

Among sectoral indices, Nifty IT, Nifty MidSmall IT & Telecom and Nifty Realty rose by up to 2 per cent in early trade. Nifty PSU Bank gained 0.31 per cent, while Nifty FMCG advanced 0.22 per cent and Nifty Oil & Gas rose 0.20 per cent.

However, healthcare and pharmaceutical stocks faced selling pressure. Nifty MidSmall Healthcare, Nifty 500 Healthcare, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare declined by up to 0.75 per cent.

FII Selling and DII Buying Remain Key Market Trends

Market experts said there were no clear triggers to change the ongoing trend of sustained foreign institutional investor (FII) selling and domestic institutional investor (DII) buying in the cash market.

With the US 10-year bond yield remaining above 5.2 per cent, foreign investors are likely to continue selling in the cash market, experts said. Domestic institutional investors are expected to absorb some of this selling pressure, supported by record mutual fund net inflows of Rs 38,307 crore in September.

Experts also noted that consumer price index (CPI) inflation at 5.54 per cent was in line with expectations. Food inflation stood at 7.74 per cent, while Brent crude prices remained above $100 per barrel.

They said a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rate hike in December was widely anticipated and could be margin-accretive for banks.

Nifty Faces Key Resistance at 22,435

Technical analysts said the market’s recovery structure had weakened significantly. However, the trading session began with hopes of a rebound after the previous day’s decline paused without breaking the recent low.

According to analysts, a sustained upward move would need to take the Nifty above 22,435 to signal strength. Failure to cross that level could open the way for a decline towards 22,070–21,900.

Asian Markets Fall as Global Tech Shares Face Pressure

Asian equities traded lower as the artificial intelligence (AI)-led rally came under renewed pressure ahead of the key earnings season.

On Monday, the Nasdaq Composite ended lower as oil prices surged following attacks on a Saudi airport. Investors were also awaiting the start of third-quarter bank earnings and the release of key economic data in the United States this week.
