Sergio Gor Pitches More Opportunities for US Businesses in India

New Delhi: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Monday pitched for expanding opportunities for American businesses in India and strengthening economic ties between the two countries, highlighting growing cooperation in innovation, investment, technology and trade.

Gor made the remarks after discussions with Amazon executives on the company’s growing India footprint and opportunities for US businesses in the country.

“American innovation is a powerful force around the world,” Gor said in a post on X, while highlighting the importance of expanding US-India economic ties.

The US envoy, who was in Bengaluru on Sunday, also highlighted the broader economic partnership between the two countries. He said cooperation across South India was helping drive innovation, expand investment and strengthen critical supply chains.

Gor said the US-India partnership was gaining momentum in Karnataka, particularly in areas such as space technology, artificial intelligence and trade.

After meeting Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Gor said initiatives such as Pax Silica and TRUST were creating opportunities for both American and Indian industries.

Gor Meets Karnataka Leaders, Tejasvi Surya

During his Bengaluru visit, the US Ambassador also met Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya.

Gor said the two discussed how the US-India partnership could continue to drive growth, innovation and economic opportunities.

His engagements come as Washington and New Delhi seek to deepen cooperation across several strategic and commercial sectors, including technology, manufacturing and supply chains.

India-US Trade Deal Talks Continue

Gor’s comments also come amid ongoing negotiations between India and the United States over a bilateral trade agreement.

Earlier this month, he said Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal would travel to the United States later in September to attend the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and hold discussions on the ongoing trade deal negotiations.

Addressing the 66th Annual Session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Gor said India and the US were working closely to strengthen their trade relationship and had made significant progress in negotiations.

He said both countries were working towards a trade relationship that is fair, reciprocal and mutually beneficial.

The latest developments underline efforts by India and the US to expand commercial opportunities, boost investment and strengthen cooperation in key sectors while negotiations on the bilateral trade deal continue.
