Several injured at Bardhaman Railway Station in West Bengal

Patna: A chaotic scene unfolded at West Bengal’s Bardhaman railway station on Sunday evening after a stampede broke out amid a massive rush of passengers, leaving several people injured. Railway officials said at least 10 to 12 passengers were hurt, with six—both men and women admitted to Bardhaman Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Others sustained minor injuries and received first aid.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when three trains arrived almost simultaneously on platforms 4, 6, and 7, triggering panic among passengers trying to board. In a rush to reach their trains, commuters crowded the narrow foot overbridge connecting platforms 4 and 6, pushing and shoving their way up and down the staircase.

As the staircase became jam-packed, the pressure of the crowd intensified and panic spread, causing people to lose balance. Several passengers slipped and fell, only to be trampled by others desperately trying to move through the dense crowd.

Scenes of fear and confusion swept through the station until railway rescue and relief teams arrived, evacuating the injured and restoring order. Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause and examine possible lapses in crowd management and platform coordination to prevent such incidents in the future.
