SGPC Reviews Case of Sarabjeet Kaur After Kapurthala Woman Travels to Pakistan, Converts and Marries

SGPC members have initiated an inquiry into the case of pilgrim Sarabjeet Kaur, who visited Nankana Sahib during the Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on November 4, 2025, and later converted to Islam and married a Pakistani man. In a viral video, Sarabjeet claimed she had known her husband for the past nine years.

SGPC member Bibi Gurpreet Ruhi from Sultanpur Lodhi said she had checked with the village sarpanch before Sarabjeet travelled to Pakistan, and no concerns or criminal records were reported.

“The SGPC does not check criminal records. Our responsibility is only to verify whether a person is living in Punjab and is devoted to the Sikh religion. Criminal record checks are the responsibility of the central or state government,” Gurpreet Ruhi said. She added that Sarabjeet’s documents were complete and that her file was never returned by Pakistani authorities for any further inquiry.

She also clarified that SGPC has no restrictions on women travelling alone for pilgrimage. “A divorced or widowed woman can visit Nankana Sahib. It can only be restricted if the SGPC establishes such a rule,” she said.

Sarabjeet left on November 4th and got married on the 5th.

Sarabjeet had gone to Pakistan on November 4th with a group of 1,932 pilgrims for the Guru Nanak Prakash Parv, but was found missing when the group returned. In a video that surfaced later, she confirmed that she had converted to Islam, married Nasir Hussain, and changed her name to ‘Noor Hussain’.

Shockingly, she had left her nationality and passport number blank on the Pakistani immigration form, further fueling the suspicions of investigating agencies. Meanwhile, the SGPC has decided to be stricter in issuing visas to solo female travelers to Pakistan.
