SGPC Meeting in Amritsar: Delegation to Meet CM Mann, Major Panthic Congregation Announced

The Special General Meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was held at Teja Singh Samudri Hall in Amritsar today. In the meeting, it was decided to support the order issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and convey it to the Sangat. In another motion, it was said that legal action should be taken against Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for allegedly misusing government machinery to produce false evidence and hurting religious sentiments.

For this, a delegation of the interim committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee will meet the DGP of Punjab and demand appropriate legal action by registering an FIR against Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and his associates. With this, it was announced that on 5th July 2026, a huge Panthak gathering was held at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall as per the traditional practice.

The meeting, chaired by SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, was attended by Jathedars of various Takhts, Granthas of Sri Harmandir Sahib, SGPC office bearers and a large number of members. It was also decided in the meeting that the Sangat would be made aware of the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib by conducting special publicity campaigns in each area.

In his address, Executive Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj said that Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the supreme institution of the Sikh Panth, and it is the duty of every Sikh to follow its orders. He alleged that the governments are constantly trying to weaken the Sikh institutions. He called upon the Khalsa Panth to unite and fight such attempts in a democratic manner.

SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said it was the responsibility of the Shiromani Committee to uphold the honour of Sikh institutions and the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. All Sikh sects, religious institutions, jathebandis and sangats will be invited to the Panthak gathering on July 5, he said.

In another resolution, strong opposition was also lodged by the Maharashtra government against the changes proposed by the Maharashtra government in the 1956 Act related to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib. The SGPC said that any government interference in the autonomy and traditional arrangements of Sikh religious institutions will not be accepted and demanded the government to reconsider the proposed amendments.
