SGPC slams Haryana government over college takeover attempt

Shahabad: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami has slammed the Haryana Police for registering a case against SGPC senior vice-president Raghujit Singh Virk, executive committee member Baldev Singh Qaimpur and others.In a press note issued here, Harjinder Singh Dhami said that instead of taking action against Baljit Singh Daduwal and his associates for allegedly attempting to forcibly occupy Miri Piri Medical College, the police registered a case against representatives of the institution.

He alleged that this move indicates that the authorities were supporting the accused rather than protecting the institution.

Attempt to occupy SGPC-run college
The controversy relates to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee-run Miri Piri Medical College located in Shahabad Markanda.

Dhami claimed that there was an attempt to take forcible possession of the college, raising serious concerns about law and order.

Questions raised against the government
The SGPC president said that it appears that the government, instead of stopping such incidents, is indirectly supporting them. He called this a serious failure of the administration.

Demand to withdraw the case
Dhami urged the Haryana Government to immediately withdraw the case registered against SGPC office-bearers and ensure strict action against those involved in the alleged takeover attempt.
