YouTube suspends SGPC official gurbani channel for one week over policy violations

Amritsar, November 20: The official YouTube channel of Shrimouni Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been suspended by YouTube for a week. The action was taken during the live broadcast of Raihara Sahib from Sri Harmandir Sahib on the evening of November 19, 2025.

YouTube said that the action was taken due to a video uploaded on October 31, 2025. In this video, a Sikh preacher shared information about Sikh history and the events of 1984. YouTube said that it violates its content policies.

SGPC sends clarification to YouTube

SGPC has sent a detailed clarification to YouTube, stating that the content presented in the video is authentic and was intended to share only religious and historical information. SGPC expresses hope that YouTube will restore the functionality of the channel soon.

Live broadcast continues through backup channel

Meanwhile, the SGPC has appealed to saints and devotees across the world to watch the daily live broadcast of Gurbani from the SGPC’s second official YouTube channel, “Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Amritsar”. The SGPC has assured that regular broadcast of Gurbani will continue without any interruption till the main channel is restored.

SGPC chief expresses concern

SGPC President and Head Granthi Giani Raghuveer Singh expressed deep concern over the suspension of the channel. He said that the sudden closure of the channel on the occasion of Shaheed Diwas, when lakhs of devotees were listening to the live broadcast from the Golden Temple from their homes, is very unfortunate and an insult to the religious sentiments of the saints. He expressed hope that the issue will be resolved soon and the main channel will start working again.
