Shahzad Poonawala removes ‘BJP National Spokesperson’ from X bio, fueling speculation

New Delhi: Shahzad Poonawala, one of the prominent TV debate faces of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has removed ‘BJP National Spokesperson’ from his X (formerly Twitter) profile, sparking speculation that he may be leaving the party.

X Bio Change Started the Discussion

Shahzad Poonawala has written in his new bio, “Religion: Islam, Culture: Hindu, Ideology: Bhartiya, Author: GST ki Yatra; Lifelong Follower of PM Narendra Modi.” Meaning, he removed “BJP National Spokesperson” but described himself as a lifelong follower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Speculation of Leaving the Party

Following the bio change, there are rumors that Shahzad Poonawala has stepped away from active politics and party responsibilities for personal reasons. However, neither the BJP nor Shahzad Poonawala has issued any official statement in this regard.

    Journey from Congress to BJP

Shahzad Poonawala, a lawyer by profession, began his political career with the Congress party. In 2017, he questioned the Congress’s internal elections, alleging that the election process for Rahul Gandhi’s appointment as party president was pre-determined. He then left the Congress and joined the BJP, becoming its national spokesperson.

    Brothers Face to Face

Shahzad Poonawala is the younger brother of political analyst Tehseen Poonawala. After leaving the Congress and joining the BJP, the two brothers frequently clashed in TV debates. Recently, Shahzad shared an old interview in which he said it was time for him to move on from active politics.
