Shatrujeet Kapoor removed from post of DGP; order issued, OP Singh to retain additional charge.

Shatrujeet Kapoor, who was sent on leave in connection with the suicide case of senior IPS officer Y. Pooran Kumar, was removed from the post of Director General of Police on Sunday. ​​Kapoor, a 1990 batch IPS officer, has been appointed Chairman of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation. O.P. Singh will now continue as the acting DGP until further orders. This also clears the way for sending a panel of officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the appointment of a new DGP.

No posting for Alok Mittal 

Alok Mittal, a 1993 batch IPS officer who was previously serving as the Chairman of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation, has not been given any new posting. Alok Mittal is also a strong contender for the DGP post and is included in the panel of five officers sent by the government to the UPSC. Acting DGP O.P. Singh is also due to retire on December 31.

Earlier, Shatrujeet Kapoor had completed his three-year tenure as DGP. Following this, the state government retained Shatrujeet Kapoor in the DGP post. IPS officer Pooran Kumar committed suicide on October 7, leaving behind an eight-page suicide note.

Shatrujeet Kapoor sent on leave after Pooran Kumar’s suicide 

He had accused 15 officers, including Shatrujeet Kapoor, of harassment. The Chandigarh Police registered an FIR in the case and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the investigation. Subsequently, on October 14, the Haryana government sent Shatrujeet Kapoor on two months’ leave and appointed O.P. Singh as the acting DGP.
