HRTC bus driver beaten by Scorpio riders in Shimla after overtaking dispute; 4 arrested

A sensational incident of an outright assault on an HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) Volvo bus driver coming from Delhi has emerged in the Kacchighati area of Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The entire incident occurred over a dispute regarding overtaking the vehicle, and the video is also going viral extensively on social media. Considering the seriousness of the matter, Shimla police took swift action and caught two of the accused on the spot, while the remaining two were caught a little later.

After the assault on the HRTC driver, the transport corporation drivers and collectors staged a protest at Shimla’s old bus stand, chanting slogans against this incident and demanding the police arrest all four accused. During this time, all employees halted the buses, but they resumed running the vehicles after the police arrested all four accused.

The whole incident – Scorpio rider angry over being overtaken

According to the information, this incident took place on Sunday morning when an HRTC Volvo bus coming from Delhi to Shimla overtook a Scorpio vehicle with a Haryana number on the way. It is alleged that the youths riding the Scorpio, angry over being overtaken, chased the bus and, upon reaching Kachighati, blocked the bus by placing their vehicle in front of it, forcing it to stop.

The police caught two at the scene.

After this, the youths started assaulting the bus driver. Due to this hooliganism that took place in the middle of the road, the passengers sitting inside the bus were thrown into panic and chaos. As soon as information about the incident was received, the Shimla police team from Baluganj police station immediately reached the spot and caught the two accused red-handed. The accused were identified as Pankaj (33 years old) son of Shiv Kumar and Vikas Kumar (22 years old) son of Vilakshan Ram, both residents of Abhaypur, Panchkula, Haryana.

The husband and wife accused who fled from the scene were also arrested.

Two of the accused had fled towards Thioag, but they were detained by the Thioag police team and handed over to Balu Ganj Police Station, where they were arrested by the team of Balu Ganj Police Station. Their identities have been established as Pratibha, wife of Vicky Kumar, from the village Abhaypur, Panchkula, Haryana, and Vicky Kumar, son of Shiv Kumar, resident of village Abhaypur, Panchkula, Haryana. The police have registered cases against both accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police Warning: Strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands.

According to Shimla Police, a detailed investigation of this case is underway and the role of other people present in the Scorpio at the time of the incident is also being investigated. No one who takes the law into their own hands or behaves violently with employees involved in public service will be spared. The police will implement very strict legal action against such elements.
