Shimla Police Solve Murder Case of Youth in Basantpur, Main Accused Arrested in Bihar

Shimla: Police at the Sunni police station have solved the murder case of a young man in the Basantpur area. The body was exhumed, and the main accused was arrested in Bihar, 10 days after the youth went missing. Chaturi Ram, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, had filed a missing person report for his son at the Sunni police station.

Missing Youth and Investigation

The victim lived in a rented room in Basantpur and worked as a house construction worker. He went missing on Holi, with his mobile phone switched off. After extensive searches yielded no clues, his father filed a missing person report on March 15. Police began investigating, questioning roommates and examining mobile call records, which revealed a dispute with a man named Arun, who worked in the same business.

Suspicion Leads to Arrest

Arun, who had leased a house in Basantpur, reportedly fought with the victim late on Holi night. Police suspected that Arun and his associates kidnapped and murdered the youth. A search in the Basantpur area led to the recovery of the body, which had been buried to destroy evidence. A special team was formed under the Superintendent of Police, leading to the arrest of the main accused, Arun Kumar, from Muzaffarpur district, Bihar.

Search for Accomplices Continues

The accused, originally from Devi Chhapra village in East Champaran district, had remained at large for nearly three weeks. Police have registered a case under sections 103, 140(1), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations continue to determine the role of other accomplices in the murder.
