Shimla: 77-day-long strike of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL) Contract Workers ends

The 77-day-long indefinite strike of the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL) Contract Workers Union in Shimla district of Himachal ended on Tuesday. A written agreement was reached between the management and labor unions in the presence of ALC Chandigarh.

CITU District President Kuldeep Dogra informed that the contract laborers working in 3 projects of Navratna company SJVNL had given a demand letter to the management on 23 June 2023. The capacity of these projects is 1500 MW, 412 MW, and 210 MW. When no action was taken for 2 years, the workers started a peaceful dharna from 1 July 2025.

Warned of agitation again if discrimination is done

According to the agreement, the workers will get an insurance facility from 1 January 2025. The decision related to gratuity will be taken in the board meeting to be held in the coming 3 months. A meeting will be held with the local management on the scheduled date on the issues of implementation of labor laws, post and promotion policy.

Labor leaders say that many employees are deprived of service benefits even after completing 60 years of service. The union has clearly warned that if any discrimination is done in the implementation of the agreement, they will agitate again.
