Shimla Road Accident: Two Police Personnel Killed In Car-Tanker Collision Near Totu-Talland

Shimla: Two police personnel were killed in a road accident in Shimla’s Totu-Talland area late Sunday night after their Alto car collided with a tanker, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Head Constable Praveen Mehta and Constable Hemant Kumar. Both were reportedly posted at Police Lines, Kaithu, and were travelling in the car for duty-related work when the accident occurred.

Car badly mangled in collision

The accident took place near the Toland-Khalini road when the Alto car, bearing registration number HP 52A-2767, collided with a tanker (HP 92A-9229).

The impact was severe and the car was badly damaged. Both police personnel travelling in the vehicle sustained fatal injuries and died at the spot.

Head Constable Praveen Mehta was reportedly a resident of Nankhari in the Rampur subdivision of Shimla district. His in-laws reside in Sari village in the Dharampur area of Mandi district.

Police begin probe into accident

Soon after the accident, police and local administration teams reached the spot. The bodies were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examinations.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision. The tanker driver is being questioned as part of the probe.

The accident also briefly disrupted traffic in the Totu area. A crane was brought in to remove the damaged vehicles from the road, following which traffic movement was restored.

Police department mourns deaths

The deaths of the two personnel have left the police department and their families in mourning. Officials expressed grief over the loss and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

The bodies will be handed over to the families after the completion of the post-mortem examinations. The exact cause of the accident will be established after the police investigation is completed.
