Shimla, April 10: A protective wall built after the Shiv Baoli landslide at Summer Hill in Shimla collapsed on Friday. Built by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) at a cost of approximately ₹5 crore, the wall had been completed just last December but crumbled within a year of its construction.

This incident has raised serious questions regarding the quality of construction and the safety measures in place. The collapse occurred on Friday morning at around 11:00 AM. Just a day earlier on Thursday debris had suddenly started falling as a private bus was passing through the area, traveling from Baluganj towards Summer Hill Chowk.

According to eyewitnesses, a section of the roadside wall had become structurally weak, and stones and debris had been falling continuously.

HPU students commute via this very route.This route serves as the primary access road for thousands of students and staff members commuting to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). A large number of students use this very route daily to reach their examination centers, compelling them to now traverse it at considerable risk.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Thakur, the former Councilor from the Summerhill Ward, has alleged that the wall in question was constructed in haste and failed to adhere to proper technical standards. He has demanded that the administration initiate a vigilance inquiry into the matter.
