Shubman Gill Makes Sher-E-Punjab T20 Debut as Fazilka Falcons Beat Ludhiana Lions by One Run

Mohali: India captain Shubman Gill made his much-awaited debut in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League on Sunday, smashing a quickfire 40 as Fazilka Falcons edged Arshdeep Singh-led Ludhiana Lions by one run in a thrilling Match 15.

Gill, playing his first game of the season for Fazilka, immediately showed his class at the top of the order. The right-handed batter struck seven fours and a six in his 21-ball 40, giving the Falcons an explosive start and setting the tone for a high-scoring contest.

Gill Makes Immediate Impact on Debut

After Ludhiana Lions captain Arshdeep Singh won the toss and opted to bowl, Gill took charge from the opening overs. His aggressive strokeplay delighted the Mohali crowd and helped Fazilka make a strong start.

However, Ludhiana fought back through Kartik Chadha, who produced a sensational spell. Chadha dismissed Gill and finished with figures of 4/9 in four overs, putting the brakes on the Falcons’ scoring.

Prerit Dutta contributed a valuable 36 off 23 balls, while Jaiveer Bhinder Singh scored 21 off 18 as Fazilka recovered from the middle-order setbacks to post 170/9 in 20 overs.

Ludhiana Fight Back in Dramatic Chase

Chasing 171, Ludhiana Lions lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to maintain the required run rate. Opener Karteek Sharma tried to anchor the innings with a patient 32 off 29 balls, but the Lions found themselves under increasing pressure.

The game changed dramatically late in the innings when Krish Bhagat and Madhav Pathania launched an aggressive counterattack.

The duo added an unbeaten 61-run partnership from just 29 balls, bringing Ludhiana within touching distance of the target. Pathania was particularly destructive, smashing an unbeaten 37 off only 16 deliveries, while Bhagat remained unbeaten on 28 off 23 balls.

Fazilka Hold Nerve in Final Over

With 19 runs needed from the final over, the match went down to the last ball.

Ludhiana kept its hopes alive throughout the over, but six runs were required from the final delivery. Pathania could manage only a boundary, leaving the Lions one run short of the target.

Fazilka Falcons therefore held on for a dramatic one-run victory, completing a thrilling finish after Ludhiana’s late fightback.

Gill was named Player of the Match for his explosive 40 on his Sher-E-Punjab T20 debut.
