Shyama Devi Rana, mother of Jaspal Rana passes away days after son’s demise

More tragic news has emerged regarding the family of Jaspal Rana, a stalwart of the Indian shooting world and a renowned coach. Unable to cope with the grief of his son’s passing, his mother, Shyama Devi Rana, has also passed away. She breathed her last at an Army hospital in Delhi.

Shyama Devi Rana (78), wife of Dronacharya Awardee Narayan Singh Rana, was undergoing treatment at a hospital in New Delhi. Her condition had deteriorated further following the death of Jaspal Rana on June 12.

She passed away today, dealing another devastating blow to the bereaved family. It is worth noting that Jaspal Rana—a native of Chilamu village in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand—served as a ‘High-Performance Coach’ for India’s pistol shooters.

He had been feeling unwell while returning to India from the ISSF World Cup in Munich. He complained of chest pain and subsequently underwent stent surgery at a hospital in Delhi. Although he was recovering, news of his sudden demise emerged unexpectedly. Jaspal Rana, who stunned the world by setting a world record at the age of just 18, consistently brought glory to India at the Commonwealth and Asian Games.
