The Sikh community is outraged following an incident at a Gurdwara Sahib in the Mardan city of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
A couple serving at the Gurdwara—Jagannath and Bibi Asma Vanti—were shot dead by unidentified assailants. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has strongly condemned the incident.
Advocate Dhami stated that killing innocent people by entering a sacred religious site like a Gurdwara Sahib is a crime against humanity. This incident raises serious concerns regarding the safety not only of the Sikh community but of all minority communities. Such attacks also pose a major threat to religious harmony and social peace.
Demand for the immediate arrest of the culprits
He demanded that the Pakistan government immediately arrest those involved in this heinous crime and ensure they receive severe punishment. He further emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety of Sikhs and other minority communities living in Pakistan, and effective steps must be taken in this regard.
Deep condolences to the bereaved family
Expressing deep condolences to the family of the deceased couple, the SGPC President prayed to the Almighty to grant the departed souls a place at His feet and to give the bereaved family the strength to bear this difficult time.
