Amritsar, November 10: Simranjit Singh Mann, President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), has written a detailed letter to the Election Commission, expressing strong opposition to the suspension of Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal.
In the letter, Mann criticises the manner in which the suspension was carried out and highlights what he describes as unfair targeting of SSP Ravjot Grewal. He claims that the decision to suspend her was influenced by political pressures and did not consider the true facts of the situation.
Mann emphasises that Dr. Grewal has been a committed and honest officer, dedicated to upholding law and order without bias. He appeals for a transparent and fair investigation into the allegations that led to her suspension, urging the authorities not to succumb to political vendettas.

Simranjit Singh Mann’s letter underlines the importance of maintaining the dignity and independence of the police department and insists that disciplinary actions must be based on facts and proper procedure.
The letter concludes with a request for immediate reconsideration of the suspension order and a call for the restoration of SSP Ravjot Grewal to her position until a fair inquiry is conducted.
This development comes amid rising political tensions in Punjab, with the Akali Dal vocally defending the police officer while opposing what they perceive as politically motivated interference in administrative matters.
The matter is now expected to receive further attention as the Election Commission considers the appeal from Mann.
5 points of complaint given by Akali Dal to election observers…
SSP and two DSPs abusing their powers: Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, accompanied by party candidate Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa and senior leaders, alleged that SSP Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal, SP (Detective) Rippurpan Singh, and CIA Staff Incharge Prabhjit Singh were abusing their official positions to conduct illegal raids on Akali workers.
Three Akali Dal councilors accused of illegal detention: Principal Randhawa reported that Akali Dal councilor Sham Singh from Ward No. 14, Sarpanch Varinder Singh, and former Sarpanch Balwinder Singh were illegally detained. They were threatened with false cases if they did not support Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu. They were taken away from the constituency by police teams from different districts.
Principal Randhawa also accused the SSP of issuing threats: Principal Randhawa alleged that these threats were being made under the leadership of SSP Dr. Ravjot Kaur. He also stated that the SSP had previously filed a false case against his daughter, Kanchanpreet, and others, in which they had received interim relief from the court.
Allegations of supporting AAP candidate: The complaint alleges that Dr. Ravjot Grewal and two other officers are making every effort to support the AAP candidate. This includes a personal assistant to the SSP, who is said to be a relative of his.
Both DSPs have been posted in Tarn Taran for a long time. The Akali Dal alleged that such blatant partisan attitude violates police force rules during elections and creates the impression that free and fair elections are impossible as long as these officers remain in office. The complaint also noted that SP Rippurpan Singh and Inspector Prabhjit Singh have been posted in Tarn Taran for a long time.
