SIR 2026: Congress MP Dharamveer Gandhi Flags Confusion Over Family Votes; Punjab Govt Says Entries Intact

Patiala, Punjab: Congress MP from Patiala Dr Dharamveer Gandhi has raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab, saying the process has caused confusion among voters.

Gandhi raises concerns over SIR process

Speaking in Patiala, Gandhi said the SIR process should have been a smooth, people-friendly and convenient exercise but had instead created uncertainty. He said he was informed that the mapping of the votes of himself and his family members had led to concerns.

Gandhi said he has been living at the same house, neighbourhood and building since 2000. He added that he had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and, according to him, the matter had now been settled.

Family members submit documents

The Congress MP also said that his vote had not been cancelled earlier either. He added that four members of his family appeared at the DC’s office on Thursday and submitted documents, including passport copies, Aadhaar cards and birth certificates.

Punjab govt rejects reports

However, the Punjab government has rejected reports claiming that Gandhi and his family members were missing from the draft electoral roll published on August 13, 2026.

In a clarification, the government said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 is going on smoothly across Punjab and urged media platforms to refrain from publishing or publicising what it described as unsubstantiated information.

The government categorically stated that the claim regarding the absence of Dr Dharamvir Gandhi and his family members from the draft electoral roll was “incorrect, baseless and unsubstantiated”.

Gandhi, family listed in draft roll

According to the clarification, Dr Dharamvir Gandhi and his family members are included in the Draft Electoral Roll published on August 13, 2026. They are registered as electors in Assembly Constituency No. 115 – Patiala, Part No. 98, at Serial Nos. 44 to 48.

The entries listed by the government are:

• Serial No. 44: Smt. Jagdamba Kaushal — wife of Dr Dharamvir Gandhi
• Serial No. 45: Ms. Rohani Prashar — daughter
• Serial No. 46: Mrs. Chahat Sahuja — daughter-in-law
• Serial No. 47: Mr. Nabendhu — son
• Serial No. 48: Dr Dharamvir Gandhi — MP, Patiala

Govt urges media to verify information

The government has maintained that the entries of Gandhi and his family members are present in the draft electoral roll and requested media organisations to refrain from reporting what it called incorrect or unsubstantiated information regarding SIR 2026.
