Bihar: A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Munger district on Wednesday when five girls were swept away while bathing in the Ganga river at Shyampur Ghat under the Mufassil Police Station area. Two girls drowned, while search operations are underway to trace the remaining three.

Five Girls Swept Away During Bath

According to police, the girls, aged between 10 and 16 years, had gone to the river for a bath when they reportedly got caught in strong currents. Four of the girls belonged to the same family, while the fifth was from a neighbouring family.

Two Bodies Recovered

Mufassil Police Station SHO Bipin Kumar Singh said rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. So far, the bodies of two girls have been recovered from the river.

The deceased have been identified as the 16-year-old and 12-year-old daughters of Kranti Paswan.

Search Operation Continues

Police, along with local rescue teams, are continuing efforts to locate the three missing girls. The search operation was ongoing till the filing of this report.

The recovered bodies will be sent for post-mortem examination, police said.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the locality, with anxious family members and residents gathering at the ghat as rescue efforts continue.
