SIT to Record Statements from Family in IPS Officer Y. Puran Kumar Suicide Case

The Chandigarh Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) will now record statements from family members in the suicide case of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar. After Diwali, the SIT is expected to summon the late IPS officer’s IAS wife, Amneet P. Kumar, his two daughters, his brother-in-law, and Amit Ratan, the Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Bathinda Rural, to record their statements. However, the SIT has not yet officially announced any details.

No decision has yet been made regarding Puran Kumar’s memorial service. On Saturday, a 51-member committee held a meeting on the issue. Three major decisions were made: First, 15,000 people will be invited to the memorial service. Second, an all-India committee will be formed to investigate the matter. Third, a letter will be written to the World Bank demanding that the government stop the funds.

The committee’s legal advisor, OP Indal, said, “We requested the Chandigarh court preserve the data on Puran Kumar’s laptop. The data transfer process should be recorded to prevent any tampering. The device contains personal information as well as data related to the children’s education. The court directed the SIT to record the entire process of data preservation and transfer.“

The SIT wants to examine the laptop.

On Saturday, following a court order, the family agreed to hand over Puran Kumar’s laptop to the SIT. According to police sources, the SIT wants to examine the laptop to determine if the suicide note was typed on it. The SIT wants to gather information from the fingerprints on the laptop. Furthermore, the police are also investigating whether Puran Kumar had the suicide note typed from outside.
