The detailed document, prepared after nearly three months of investigation, was submitted in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Kamrup (Metro). It encapsulates extensive evidence, witness testimonies, and findings gathered by the SIT as part of its probe into the circumstances surrounding the popular singer’s death in Singapore.
Officials involved in the investigation recorded statements from more than 300 witnesses, including individuals present around the time of the incident, before finalizing the massive chargesheet.
Zubeen Garg, a celebrated singer and cultural figure from Assam, died under mysterious circumstances on September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea during a visit to Singapore to participate in the 4th North East India Festival (NEIF).
The incident triggered widespread public attention and protests in Assam, resulting in the lodging of over 60 FIRs across the state and the formation of a SIT under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the case thoroughly.
According to sources, several individuals remain in judicial custody in connection with the case. These include:
Shyamkanu Mahanta — NEIF event organizer
Siddharth Sharma — Garg’s manager
Amritprabha Mahanta — Singer
Shekhar Jyoti Goswami — Musician
DSP Sandipan Garg — Garg’s cousin
Personal Security Officers — Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora
The charge sheet is said to outline specific charges against the accused, with allegations ranging from criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide not amounting to murder to murder and causing death by negligence, though the exact legal details will be further examined in court.
With the chargesheet now filed, the case moves into the judicial review phase, where the court will scrutinize the evidence and begin formal trial proceedings. This development marks a key milestone in one of the most closely watched legal matters involving the death of a prominent Indian artist.
