    Sitharaman discusses India-EU FTA, investments with top leaders in Germany

    New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman discussed the India–EU Free Trade Agreement during her visit to Germany. She briefed Lars Klingbeil on India’s digital payment success and offered to share best practices of India’s digital public infrastructure.

    Talks with Liechtenstein Leadership: Boosting Investments

    Sitharaman met Brigitte Haas and Alois Philipp Maria in Munich. Discussions focused on expanding Liechtenstein-based investments in manufacturing, green technology, agriculture equipment, and climate action.

    ECB’s Role & India–EU FTA Timeline

    In her meeting with Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, both sides noted the planned finalisation of the India–EU FTA in January 2026. Sitharaman highlighted the ECB’s potential role in facilitating trade under the deal.

    EU Banks in India: Branch Expansion Plan

    The Finance Minister said that under the Union Budgets FY2025–26 and FY2026–27, EU banks will be allowed to open up to 15 branches in India over four years under the FTA framework.

    Engagement with BMW on Reforms & Stability

    Earlier, Sitharaman met Oliver Zipse, Chairman of BMW AG, to discuss India’s recent economic reforms, policy continuity, and stability.
