Six-day cold wave and fog alert in Punjab; Strong winds expected

The cold wave and fog conditions persist in Punjab and Chandigarh, and people will have to face these conditions until the 7th. Nights will become even colder. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for fog and a cold wave until tomorrow, and a yellow alert for the following days.

However, a slight increase in minimum temperatures was recorded again in the last 24 hours. Despite this, the maximum temperature is still 3.8 degrees Celsius below normal. The lowest maximum temperature was recorded in Faridkot at 13.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Gurdaspur was recorded at 4.8 degrees Celsius.

A thunderstorm occurred in Patiala, and thunderstorms were also recorded in Pathankot and Halwara. Dense fog prevailed in Patiala and Adampur, where visibility was recorded at 60 meters. Light rain was also recorded in some areas.

Severe cold expected from Saturday

According to the Meteorological Department, severe cold will prevail from tomorrow, Saturday, as a Western Disturbance is becoming active. Cold winds will blow and fog will persist. Today, very dense fog is expected in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Malerkotla.

Cold day conditions are likely in Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali). In addition, a cold wave is expected in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, and Bathinda. People are advised to take precautions when going out in the morning and evening. Dense fog will prevail in these cities.

Very Dense fog in these areas 

Additionally, very dense fog is likely in some areas of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali). Meanwhile, dense fog is expected in some parts of Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, and Mansa. The weather is expected to remain dry.
